Intune Music Director Peng Chi Sheng and Songwriting Instructor Derrick Tham conducted a series of Mandarin Songwriting Workshop at Nan Hua High School!

This Mandarin Songwriting Workshop for Nan Hua High School has provided students with an in-depth understanding of the art of songwriting. This workshop covered various aspects of melody and lyrics writing, including the three fundamentals of music, analysis of what makes a pop song a hit, and the impact of tempo, rhythm, groove time-signature, and different modes on a song. Students learnt about harmony analysis, chords, song genres, and structure.

Additionally, students were taught about the recording process, including demo recording studios, recording engineers, demo singers, music arrangements, and vocal producers. The workshop emphasized refining song lyrics, including exploring the similarities and differences between lyrics and other literary works. Participants also learnt about the overall mood, variation, and story development within a song and how arrangement, singer, relative pitch, chords, and other commercial factors can impact their work.

The workshop covered themes and brainstorming techniques, as well as connecting with people through creating a setting and using literary techniques. Students were also taught how to use rhymes to their advantage in their songwriting. By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained valuable skills and knowledge to help them in their songwriting endeavors.
