How Do I Sing From My Diaphragm? Why Do I Run Out Of Breath When I Sing?

Many singers are very concerned about breath, and one of the biggest complaints I get from everyone here is that when you sing, you tend to run out of breath often, even though you might have taken a big breath before starting to sing!

And so, many singers focus a lot on breath training and wanting to learn how to sing ‘from the diaphragm’, and to provide good breath support.

However, as well-informed singers, we need to look at our vocal anatomy as a system, and consider other reasons why our voice might be breathy or why we might be running out of breath when we sing.

In this video, I talk about how having good vocal fold contact is one of the most important ways in which a singer can ensure that they are able to produce a strong and solid voice, without running out of breath all the time!

Also, singers would not need to take in so much breath before they sing, if they only learn how to produce sounds with good vocal fold contact. It really does make a huge difference!
